Independent Trustee Services
Delivering the independent trustee services our clients require
Our independent trustee services were first established in 2001, to deliver knowledge, experience and where appropriate leadership to trustee boards. We currently act as independent, professional trustees to a variety of schemes, in sectors ranging from banking and manufacturing through to social housing. We work with a wide range of pension professionals, both on a long term and interim project based appointment basis, including specialist wind up work.
All our independent trustees have extensive pensions industry knowledge and bring a wealth of practical expertise to help support duties and responsibilities to trustees, employers and members.
Pi works on a principle of lead and shadow, so there is always a consultant available to support the efficient conduct of trustee business ensuring decisions can be taken in a timely manner. We are acutely aware of the need to deliver pragmatic, cost effective solutions and can design the range of our services and support to best meet the needs of the individual scheme and trustee board. We regularly manage conflicts of interest arising from a variety of different situations and can help in negotiations with the scheme sponsor.
Our independent trustee services deliver expertise in the folloring areas:
- Trusteeship of DB, DC, CARE and hybrid schemes

“I have worked with John in his capacity as an Independent Trustee for more than 5 years. During that time John has dealt with a wide range of issues, most notably a contentious and complex scheme compromise deal, the subsequent wind-up of the rump scheme (which was the first wind-up to be undertaken post Pensions Act 2004 coming into force) and establishment of a sophisticated funding framework for the replacement scheme. My experience of John is that he combines a calm, rational, member-focussed reasoning with commerciality and practicality; especially in situations where there is little or no established practice. I have found John’s contribution as an independent trustee particularly helpful in diffusing contentious situations and guiding other trustees through challenging member specific complaints.”
