Ian Richards

Ian acts primarily as an Independent Trustee, he is currently an independent chairman of the trustees of a FTSE 100 company’s DB and DC scheme. He has a wealth of over 40 years’ experience in the pensions and investment industry.
 

Ian previously worked for Legal & General Investment Management for fifteen years having joined to help develop their index tracking business. As Head of DC Strategy and Governance at L&GIM, he was responsible for developing a strategy to cope with changes likely to be needed by trustees from 2012, and for developing a new governance approach for client relationships.
 

Specialist subjects
 

Ian has extensive practical experience of working with trustees and their advisers to determine appropriate strategies for growth and de-risking portfolios (ranging from the better use of bonds through to LDI and buy-out).

He brings specific expertise in most aspects of DC and was instrumental in driving forward the common industry data standard which has been fundamental in establishing ‘Straight Through Processing’ links between administrators and investment managers.
 

Ian is a qualified member of the Personal Finance Society, an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and holds the Pensions Management Institute Certificate of Trusteeship. He speaks regularly at conferences, contributing to research papers and magazine articles. Pensions Insight Magazine included him amongst the 50 most influential people in pensions at the end of 2010.
