Outsourcing Pension Communications
Just by way of introduction Pi Consulting is a specialist management consultancy focusing on occupational pensions. Pi advises employers and boards of trustees of occupational pension schemes. Pi also communicates with employees who are members of their employers' occupational pension schemes. Pi stands for Professional and Independent. Pi is a pure consultancy, entirely free from all conflicts of interest - it does not provide administration, actuarial or audit services; it does not handle money or give investment advice which is why it can offer unbiased and independent advice.
One of our core services is ‘pension communications’. Complex subjects, such as pensions, require effective communication if key messages and explanations are not to get bogged down in technicalities and jargon.
Pi Consulting has the skills and can provide the direction and leadership for:
- organising and running complex and straightforward employee communication projects
- drafting and producing newsletters, informal trustee reports, announcements, Q&A bulletins etc
- the development of individual presentation/communication skills
Project Examples
Indiana - A FTSE 100 company underwent a consultation exercise and introduced some fundamental changes to their pension benefits. Pi was asked to support the Employee Representative Committee. As Pi was not part of the panel of advisers which had assisted in the Employer making their proposals, Pi preserved its independence.
Pi supported the Committee in helping understand their role in the consultation process, collating and structuring their questions, identifying training needs and addressing those needs. Pi's role was to help the Committee provide objective and dispassionate feedback to the company in a structured and informed manner.
Eugene - In advising a FTSE 250 company through a strategic review Pi identified the need to train a working party, formed of both management and employee representatives, in the issues facing sponsors of final salary schemes and the options to address the problems. This training was performed through a series of workshops. Our remit expanded to include drafting the consultation material with the proposals for change and to providing a point of contact for the queries that followed.
